15th November 2015 – Workshop with Roger Reynolds

Roger Reynolds is a member of The Institute of Analytical Plant Illustrators. The first part of this workshop covered drawing a plant to scale and adding a scale bar to a drawing or painting. We then viewed a powerpoint presentation based on chapter 8 (Flowers) of Ann Bebbington’s book ‘Understanding the Flowering Plants’.

After a break for lunch we began the practical work. Using Lily, primrose and cyclamen flower heads we learnt how to work out a floral formula, drawing a floral diagram, dissection of a flower and looking at sections using a microscope. Most of us passed on dissecting an Alstoemeria flower. Many thanks to Roger for an enjoyable and informative day.

The society had a stand at this event held from the 5th to 8th November. Members were present each day to talk to the public and demonstrate graphite work and watercolour painting. There are photographs of the stand on the organisations Facebook page. A lot of interest was shown and we handed out leaflets and bookmarks with information on our activities.
