The society was hoping to resume meeting on 20th September but unfortunately the venue in Stirchley will not be open. Also today (9.09.20) the government has announced new restrictions on the number of people who can meet, this may prevent us from meeting again in the near future. We will inform members of any arrangements as soon as we have information.
We are able to hold our exhibition ‘Flora Mundi’ as planned at The Granary Art Gallery, Weston Park in November.
The 2020 SBA Plantae Exhibition is online until 30th June. Go to the SBA web site and click on the rose to view.
Congratulations to our members Sandy Gough, Jeni Neale, Adrienne Roberts, Celia Scottow and Jane Wilkes who all have work in the exhibition.
In line with government policy it is with regret that all meetings of the society at Stirchley will cease for the next four months.
We were to participate at two events at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens in May these events are cancelled. The gardens are open but the cafe is closed until further notice.
Members will be informed of any further developments. Keep well and stay safe.
Thank you to Susan Hillier for travelling from Cornwall to give us a workshop held on Sunday 15th March
Susan told us about her life as a working artist which requires discipline. When dealing with book publishers the art directors dictate what images and size of paintings are required. You are always working to a deadline so it is important to ask how many images are required and what is the time limit for submission before agreeing to proceed.
Susan also gave us many useful tips, giving information the papers, paints and brushes that she prefers. She gave a demonstration on using watercolour pencils and how to paint raindrops. It was a very informative and enjoyable day.
If you did not manage to go Kew to see the exhibition of paintings from Shirley Sherwoods collection the entire collection is available to view on line – http://shirleysherwood.com/the-collection
Our first meeting of the year on January 19th was a painting day as is our next on February 16th. Members need to get busy as we have our exhibition ‘Flora Mundi’ at the Granary Art Gallery, Weston Park in November. Members will be invited to submit up to six paintings for exhibition.
An outing to Kew to see the exhibition – Modern Masterpieces of Botanical Art – at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery is planned for Thursday 28th February. Make your own way there and meet at noon at the Victoria Gate.
