This day focused on graphite pencil work and underpainting plus graphite. The different makes of pencils were discussed and the techniques for sharpening. Ann demonstrated resist techniques using embossing tools, hard pencils and a wax blender. These techniques are useful for creating texture and hair effects on leaves and seedheads. Underpainting can complement graphite pencil drawing, coloured pencils or pastel pencils can be used.
Then it was our turn to faintly draw a daffodil bulb and colour in using a range of colours to reflect the hues on the bulb. These colours were blended using a felt tip solvent pen then graphite was applied on top. An enjoyable day with BSBA members learning new techniques to enhance our work.
