16th July 2023 meeting and Information on 2025 World Wide Day of Botanical Art

July 17, 2023

Our July meeting saw a return visit by Laura Silburn. The title of her workshop ‘Painting with Reds’. Firstly we identified the brightest reds in our palette, chiefly Scarlet Lake and Winsor Red.  Laura said it was almost impossible to mix a colour as vibrant as some of the commercial pre mixed reds, and we tried to mix matching reds to those above and those we had. Next we practised layering different colour reds for the brightest effects, adding other colours to the mix such as Transparent Orange or Yellow brightened the mix. Creating shadows required the addition of a green, or Perylene maroon or Perylene Violet. Many thanks to Laura for a very useful workshop and for providing an array of red material to work from.
