September 20th – An Introduction to Bookbinding

September 21, 2026

With Florence and Cheryl

Today’s meeting was a fun, hands-on day with Florence and Cheryl guiding us brilliantly through making three different types of sketchbooks. We started with a neat little concertina sketchbook, moved swiftly to a hand-stitched notebook, and then tackled a more ambitious multi-sectioned book complete with decorative endpapers.

All the materials were generously provided, including a tempting array of patterned papers, and we did lots of cheerful cutting, folding and sticking along the way. I have to say everyone’s finished sketchbooks looked wonderfully professional, and it was a real treat to head home with three completed creations. Florence and Cheryl were absolutely wonderful tutors, and everyone clearly enjoyed themselves. We look forward very much to welcoming them back next year to try our hand at Coptic bookbinding.
