Society member Liz Green gave a short talk at our April 16th meeting about presenting and framing our art work.
It is very important to get the spacing of the picture in the mount correct and have a wider mount at the bottom. Opinion on whether to have a single or double mount was felt by members to be a personal choice. The tip for getting the spacing correct is to attach white gummed paper strips (moistened by water) to the back of the top of your painting have a piece of card or backing board ready and when satisfied with the position of the image in the mount attach to the backing board. The painting will then not move in the mount while framing. Do not use masking tape on your picture because if you need to remove it the glue will not come off. The glue on the gummed tape can be moistened with water and it comes off easily. Always use acid free card or backing board behind your paintings. When framing always seal with brown gummed tape.
For our stand at the NEC the paintings need to have a mount and card or board behind and be completely covered with cellophane as they are fixed with Velcro to the stands. Liz gave us many tips and we were all impressed that she cuts mounts and frames all her own pictures.
