🌿 This month, we stepped away from our usual gathering at Stirchley Baths to attend the Worldwide Botanical Art event at Birmingham’s RBSA Gallery.
The exhibition was the culmination of three years of dedicated planning, with BSBA members playing a key role on the steering committee. Funded by the James and Shirley Sherwood Foundation, the event was led by Association of Botanical Artists President Elaine Allison and brought together representatives from the Society of Botanical Artists, the Eden Project Florilegium Society and the Wales Society of Botanical Artists.
This year’s theme focused on biodiversity, celebrating the crops that have nourished and sustained humanity for thousands of years. Through vibrant and thoughtful artwork, the exhibition explored the deep-rooted relationship between people and plants, offering a poignant reminder of our shared history and future.
🌎 Remarkably, the exhibition in Birmingham was one of many taking place around the world, as 34 countries held simultaneous events on May 18th. This truly international celebration of botanical art highlighted the universal importance of biodiversity and the creative ways artists connect with nature across cultures.
It was a powerful showcase of collaboration, imagination, and passion on a global scale.
